Find Your Power
Job creation and workforce training are central priorities for the Philadelphia Energy Authority. We estimate that Solarize Philly will create 75 jobs, and we are working to ensure that Philadelphians are prepared to join this growing industry.
In August, 18 students completed the inaugural “Find Your Power” solar training program, the first solar job training program offered through the School District of Philadelphia (SDP). PEA developed the class in partnership the School District’s Office of Career and Technical Education with the support of GreenFutures. The 6-week class took place in Ben Franklin High School’s Renewable Energy Lab. Students gained an understanding of the importance of clean energy, solar installation best practices, and general job readiness skills. PEA will be working with the interested students to connect them with future training and apprenticeship opportunities in the solar industry. Solar practitioners from one of Solarize Philly’s approved installers, Solar States, taught the class.
PEA is working with the School District to build on the success of this program and establish a year-round solar training program available to students in the School District of Philadelphia. PEA is also supporting the Energy Coordinating Agency and Philadelphia OIC to develop solar training courses available to adults and other students.
